My Surroundings / Locality

In the wider context we have the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown, an hours drive away. In the opposite direction is Wanaka, another beautiful lake resort in the mountains. There are 4 downhill ski fields and one cross country all within 2 hours drive. A days drive from Cromwell can take you to the South Island west coast where the snow covered Southern Alps tower above the untouched beach forests. Glaciers flow down to the Tasman sea. The Mt Aspiring National park is a must see.

My Hometown

Cromwell, population approximately 4500, is a rural town supporting the vineyards and wineries that fill the Cromwell basin and the high country sheep and cattle stations that surround it. Cromwell has a history of gold mining and is a town where the stories of the early pioneers are part of the social fabric. It is well serviced with food outlets, medical support, restaurants, recreational activities both on the man made lake Dunstan, and on the mountains around it.
